Our mission

Making an exciting sport accessible to everyone

What is the purpose of the Rugby National Association of Upper Austria?

We see our main task as organizational support for our member clubs. We are making particular efforts to further spread rugby in Upper Austria by founding new clubs. We promote the development of rugby sport in particular through training, improved young talent work and school sports.

What successes were you able to achieve?

The association's most important achievement is to spread our sport in Upper Austria with five clubs already. Since rugby is still little known to the public, every additional player is already a small success. We are also very proud that we have managed to grow steadily since our restructuring in 2017 - especially in the junior sector, where we train the second-most players after Vienna.

Special sporting successes in recent years have included the championship title with the U18 of RC Linz and the vice state championship title of our women's team. The most recent fourth place in the men's 15s Bundesliga with our selection team from Rugby Upper Austria is also a noteworthy success.

What are you particularly proud of as a club?

We are particularly proud of our successful work with young talent, with which we have been drawing attention time and again in Austrian rugby for many years. We regularly manage to be represented by teams in almost all age groups at Austrian championships and international tournaments and challenge the major Vienna clubs in doing so. In addition to working in clubs, we are also trying to make our sport more widely known by promoting school rugby. For this purpose, we visit sports schools, organize summer camps and offer continuing education for interested sports teachers.

What challenges do you face as an association?

The low profile of our sport in Austria and the associated low media attention is our biggest challenge. Although rugby has also been an Olympic game since 2016, we have to introduce the sport again and again and refute prejudices. One of our most important goals is therefore to make rugby more widely known.

Why is digitization important to you?

Digitalization is particularly important to us in order to simplify processes and better distribute work tasks. In addition, the transfer of knowledge is significantly easier as soon as officials are changed.

Vereinsplaner supports us in this, as it meets our most important requirements (appointments, groups). The team of Vereinsplaner also provides us with excellent support in introducing the tool and responds very quickly and agilely to our requirements and wishes.

The self-organization of coaches and team members is extremely important to us. This divides the organizational effort between several people.
